Moogacha Birda/Moong Bean Curry |
Moogacha birda is a delicious recipe packed with protein.
It goes well with rice and chapati.


Ingredients :
2 cups sprouted moong
1 cup chopped tomato
2 cups coconut milk
1/2 tsp jaggery
Salt as per taste
Finely chopped coriander
Spices :
1 tsp coriander and cumin powder
1 tsp red chilly powder
Tempering :
2 tsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
1/8 tsp asafoetida
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
Directions :
| 1 | Heat oil in a pan. Add ingredients listed under tempering in the order given. |
| 2 | Once the mustard seeds splutter add tomato and stir it, then add coconut milk. |
| 3 | Add ingredients listed under spices. |
| 4 | Add jaggery and stir the mixture well. |
| 5 | Add moong and cook it covered for minimum 10 minutes on medium flame or till they are cooked. |
| 6 | Add salt. |
| 7 | Add chopped coriander and mix it well. |

Note :
- You can add finely chopped onion and saute them for 5 minutes before you add tomato.
- You can use either canned coconut milk or make fresh one at home.In case you are using canned milk make sure to add some water since its very thick than fresh one.
- You can cook moong in pressure pan till one whistle.
- In case you want to take the moong skin out, soak them in plenty of water and stir them well. Moong skin will float on top.Take out the skin and repeat the process till all the moong beans are deskinned.
