CodeIgniter multiple URI segments to one function |
Following example is given in CodeIgniter user guide.For example, lets say you have a URI like this:
example.com/index.php/products/shoes/sandals/123
Your function will be passed URI segments 3 and 4 ("sandals" and "123"): So Controller looks like this

class Products extends Controller {
function shoes($sandals, $id)
{
echo $sandals;
echo $id;
}
}
?>
Problem with this approach is now controller will not be able to handle URI like example.com/index.php/products/shoes/sandals
To achieve this always use function without any parameters e.g. function shoes()
Now use uri class provided by CodeIgniter to get uri segments in your Controller function and then load correct page

function shoes()
{
$this_class_name = $this->uri->segment(1,0);
$this_function_name = $this->uri->segment(2,0);
$this_segment1_name = $this->uri->segment(3,0);
$this_segment2_name = $this->uri->segment(4,0);

//load page /index.php/products/shoes/sandals/123
}
else
{
//load page /index.php/products/shoes/sandals
}
}
}
?>
